Ellie Eunbi Baek

South Korean flutist, Eunbi Baek, has been crafting her world through music from a young age, expressing her free spirit and musical intuition. Having attended an experience-based learning school for her primary and secondary education, she grew up with a rich variety of life experiences, including traveling to Nepal to complete the Annapurna Mountain trekking course when she was 15 years old. Her curiosity about the world and the joy of learning eventually inspired her to pursue a life in music.

Eunbi's musical talent quickly gained recognition, securing first place in prestigious national competitions such as the Seoul National University Wind Music Competition and the TBC Competition, as well as second place in the Ewha Kyunghyang Competition. Her solo career took off with the Kumho Young Artist Recital in 2018, followed by an invitation to perform at the 23rd Kukmin Daily Debut Concert in 2023, an event reserved for outstanding performers from Korean universities.

Her love for music extends beyond solo performances into the realm of ensemble playing. While at Seoul National University, she was a member of the Diamant Woodwind Quintet, performing at the Kumho Young Chamber Concert and the Seocho Music Festival, where she explored a wide and varied repertoire. Eunbi later founded the Arete Trio, a flute trio, and produced a unique concert at Tongui-dong Classic, combining the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky with the music of Shin’ya Takahashi. This innovative, multi-sensory performance was well-received by audiences. The Arete Trio continued to gain recognition, achieving second place at the 20th International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition in Germany in 2023, establishing themselves as an internationally acclaimed ensemble. An experienced orchestral player, Eunbi has filled temporary positions in Orchestral Ensemble Seoul, Hankyung Arte Philharmonic, and TMO Orchestra in Korea.

Eunbi’s journey of growth through learning has led her to participate in various national and international music festivals, including Beyond the Masterclass, L'Académie Internationale d'été de Nice, Busan International Music Academy, and Music Alp Camp.

Eunbi graduated with high honors in both performance and academics from Seoul Arts High School. In February 2023, she graduated summa cum laude from Seoul National University, where she studied under Professor Hyeri Yoon. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at The Juilliard School in New York with Robert Langevin. In addition to music, Eunbi enjoys activities that allow her to find tranquility, such as knitting and solving puzzles.
