Kun Yan

 

Kun Yan was born in Hunan, China in 1998 and started to play the violin at the age of 5. Currently she is pursuing master's degree at The Juilliard School with Ronald Copes. Yan received Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory where she studied with Ayano Ninomiya. Yan is the winner of 2021 American Virtuoso International Music Competition. She made her solo debut at the age of 8 with Hunan Symphony Orchestra, she also appeared as soloist with Henan Symphony Orchestra and Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra in China. As an orchestral musician, she has had the privilege of working with world renowned conductors such as Hugh Wolff, Sir. Antonio Pappano, Xian Zhang, Ludovic Morlot, Jindong Cai. Yan performed globally in 2017 and 2019 as the principal of National Youth Orchestra of China, venues she had performed include the Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, etc. Currently, she served as a substitute violinist for the New World Symphony and was admitted by New York String Orchestra Seminar in 2021. Yan is passionate towards chamber music, she is the alumna of Bowdoin, Yellow Barn, and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival. Her chamber music mentor includes Joseph Lin, Merry Peckham, David Bowlin, Seth Knopp, Mark Steinberg, David Finckle. During her time at New England Conservatory, she formed Blanche Quartet won the Honors Chamber Competition in NEC under the tutelage of the artistic director of Perlman Music Program Merry Peckham in 2019.
