Nick Mesler
Nick Mesler (Trombone) was born and raised in Seattle, WA, and began playing trombone at the age of 10. He joined Roosevelt High School’s jazz band for 4 years, attending JALC’s Essentially Ellington program from 2018-2021 (winning in 2019) and receiving top honors from it and other programs.
He is currently earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz studies from the Juilliard School via their 5-year program. Nick has performed at venues across the world and played/collaborated with many luminaries of the music community including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Wynton Marsalis, Rufus Reid, Melissa Aldana, Ingrid Jensen, Russell Malone, Warren Wolf, Elio Villafranca, and many others.
An accomplished composer and arranger, Nick leads his own big band (with a focus on original compositions) and has transcribed many Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn works, a feat that has led to collaborations with David Berger, Loren Schoenberg, and other esteemed jazz musicians/historians.
