Peter Weng

Cellist Zhang-Hong (Peter) Weng, a native of Taiwan, began to study cello at the age of eight. His former teachers included Weixi Luo, Xian Zhuo, and Zaixin Zhuo. Peter earned his Bachelor’s degree at the Oberlin Conservatory under the tutelage of Darrett Adkins, and while there he was awarded a high scholarship. Peter currently is pursuing his Master’s degree at The Juilliard School studying with Darrett Adkins and Joel Krosnick. 

As a chamber musician, Peter studied at Oberlin and Juilliard with renowned professors including Darrett Adkins, David Bowlin, Francesca de Pasquale, Jonathan Feldman, Marilyn McDonald, and Merry Peckham. He performed in Oberlin Chamber Fest several times, and his concerts were well received by audiences. As an orchestral player, Peter served as assistant principal cello at Oberlin. 

To enrich his study, Peter participated in multiple music festivals including the Meadowmount School of Music, String Insiders OSSI, and Cleveland Institute of Music International Academy. He has studied performance with many prestigious artistsincluding Zlatomir Fung, Hans Jorgen Jensen, Melissa Kraut, Julia Lichten, Richard Weiss, and studied chamber music with Kikuei Ikeda, Anita Pontremoli, Jutta Puchhammer, and Ivan Ženatý. In 2019, he had the pleasure of receiving an invitation to perform Bach Cello Suite no.3 at the United Nations.
