Yusei Hata

 

Yusei Hata (b.2002) is a second year undergraduate composer from New York City. He currently studies with Robert Beaser at the Juilliard School. He is interested in using music as a way to observe, explore, and wrestle with human emotions. He also draws inspiration from personal experiences, world history, and different cultures from around the world, especially Japan where his family is from. 

Yusei's works have been performed by numerous people and organizations such as the New York Philharmonic, Contemporaneous, Metropolis Ensemble, and New York Virtuoso Singers, throughout New York City and the United States, including at David Geffen Hall, Roulette Intermedium, National Sawdust, National Opera Center, and Merkin Concert Hall. He is also the first prize winner of the Level I: 15th Annual Young Composers Competition by Webster University Community School of Music, a winner of the 2017 New York State High School Choral Composition Competition, recipient of the Encouragement Award of the 26th All Japan Composers Competition, chamber Music Division by Tokyo International Association of Arts, and a two time finalist in the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards.
