Zachary Detrick

Zachary Detrick was born and raised in New York City. He has been composing since the age of four and playing piano since six. He played in NYC’s Face the Music, an all-teenage ensemble committed to the works of living composers, for five years as a pianist and percussionist. He has written for the New York Philharmonic, as well as Face the Music, Ensemble ACJW, The Metropolis Ensemble, loadbang, Gutbucket, Yarn|Wire, the Washington Square Winds, the American Composers Orchestra and Contemporaneous. His mentors include Juilliard’s Daniel Ott and Kyle Blaha, and currently he studies with Robert Beaser. Zachary has long cultivated a taste for all things unconventional, and his heroes include Lewis Carroll, Jim Henson, the Marx Brothers, Captain Beefheart, John Cage and Charles Ives. Zachary adores his family pet, an extremely large Siberian Forest cat named Sammy, and considers himself good but not great at The Legend of Zelda video games.
