Lúa Mayenco Cardenal

 

Born in Madrid, Spain, Lúa Mayenco graduated with special honors from the Professional Conservatory of Dance Carmen Amaya. While she was studying in Madrid, she had the opportunity to perform the works of África Guzmán, Elena Serna and Daniel Otrevel among others. In 2016 she became the first Spanish dancer in the history of The Juilliard School, where she has been able to focus on both her dancing and choreographic career until today. During the summer of 2018 she founded and co-directed the movement workshop “Beyond Words,” offered to young students with no previous dance training. During her time at Juilliard, Lúa has performed the works of renowned choreographers like John Heginbothan, Gentian Doda, José Limón, Twyla Tharp, Zack Winokur, Peter Chu and Martha Graham. This past Fall she was also one of the six choreographers selected to create an original piece in collaboration with the composer Tengku Irfan for the Juilliard dance event "Choreographers and Composers."
